Directions to Harrisonburg High School
As each of you is traveling from a different locale, it is easier to provide the address to Harrisonburg High School for your information.
You can utilize exit 251, 247, or 243 to access Harrisonburg High School. There is a JMU home football game at 1:30pm on this date. We suggest avoiding exit 245 (Port Republic Rd.). Our address is 1001 Garbers Church Road Harrisonburg, VA 22801.
Admission for the 2018 SVMI is $8. Students and Seniors tickets are $5. Children 5 and under are FREE. Event programs are available throughout the stadium for $ 2.00 which includes the day’s schedule, band information; advertisements, and judge information. Air grams are available for $2.
Announcer / Program Info Sheet Due Friday, October 4th
Please complete the announcer/ program info sheet and submit to by Friday, October 4th, 2019. Even if you completed your information on the registration google survey, we ask for you to complete this form, as well. It will be handed directly to the announcer, for accuracy, on the day of the show.
Concessions Pre-Order Forms Due Monday, Oct 9, 2019
We offer Concession Pre-Order Forms for SVMI 2019. These are offered at a discounted rate from our concessions costs, and orders must be sent in by Monday, October 9, 2019 to Forms will be sent to participating directors closer to the event. Payment should be submitted in the form of one check at registration on the day of the event made out to the HARRISONBURG HIGH SCHOOL BAND BOOSTERS. Please try to take advantage of this as it will allow your students to avoid long lines at concessions. Pre-order forms will be sent via email.
Preliminary Event/ Finals Event
All ensembles will be performing in our preliminary event within classes. After the preliminary awards, we will bring the directors of the class winners and the next four highest scores down to the track to draw for performance order for finals. The bottom four scores of the top eight will draw for first four performance spots, the four class winners will draw for the final four performance spots.
Immediately following the preliminary performances, there will be an exhibition performance by the Harrisonburg High School Marching Blue Streak Band followed by the preliminary awards ceremony. We will then have a quick turnaround for the finals portion of the event. Upon conclusion of finals, we will hold our finals awards, where we will give out cash prizes to the top three placing ensembles.
We are excited to bring in a diverse group of adjudicators, with various backgrounds and successes. Adjudicators are listed on the SVMI Contest page on the VMBC website.
We will have water stations available at the warm up area, at the top of the hill entering the stadium, and after your performance. Please encourage your students to stay hydrated throughout the day.
Registration will be located at the front loop of the school building (between the two stop lights on Garbers Church Road). Hands will be stamped for staff, chaperones, pit crew and performers. All others will need to purchase tickets at the gate. From this point the registration coordinator will direct you to your parking location. Please do not have vehicles that are not buses or equipment trucks in the band parking area.
Bus and equipment vehicle parking will be located on the south side of the school (for most bands) by the tennis courts. This is convenient to the warm up and changing locations. Spectator parking will be located on the north side of the school closest to the stadium.
Field Entry / Exit
Field entry will be on the bottom right corner (Side B) facing the field from the press box. Field exit will be the top left corner (Side A) facing the field from the press box. A map will be sent via email.
Our wonderful band boosters concessions will be available, so please eat with us! (Menu includes: burgers, hot dogs, chicken sandwiches, nachos, etc.) Please take advantage of our pre-order plan. We will also have vendors/ food trucks from Outback, Kona Ice, Taco El Primo, and BBQ (These are not available as pre-orders). Please do not tailgate, grill, or bring in outside food. Encourage your students to eat at our concession stand.
Director/ Staff/ Driver Hospitality
We offer a highly popular hospitality tent for directors, staff, and bus drivers! Conveniently located near the field for easy viewing of performances. (Looking at the field it will be in the back left corner (Side A), accessible along the path from the visitor bleachers as shown on map.)
Changing Rooms/ Restrooms
Restroom areas will be available in our building on the bus parking side of the complex for changing. Please be quick during this process. If you are able to arrive already dressed in uniform (local groups), please do so, as our changing areas are not very spacious.
Judge’s comments will be shared via a google drive folder. You may share this folder with any of your staff members. Google folders will be shared prior to the event.
